ABOUT

My name is Lawren Alice. I’m an artist, muralist, and full-time gallery curator based in Philadelphia. I’ve made art for as long as I can remember, and it took yeeeeeeears for me to find a style that felt like like my own. In 2018, something finally clicked, and I naturally fell into finding my style that I had slowly been growing the whole time.

My work is mostly freehanded patterns that grow outward from the center largely inspired by damask, botanical elements, and a deep love for all things ornamental. Color is most definitely my favorite part of the process. Since everything is freehanded and can't really be 'undone', each piece is basically a new color and contrast experiment for me. I usually try to find a new color combo every time I make something, and am always on the chase to find new ways to play with color.

If you're looking for art with deep meaning, I can't help you here. My work isn’t really about any sort of important message. I'm really just trying to create something beautiful to look at and hope that my balanced designs make you feel calm, and happy, and are easy to sit with. I just want to make things pretty.

Murals are my favorite thing to paint because of their bigger visual impact, but I’ll happily paint on canvas (or any other surface) when asked. One day, I’d love to get into textile patterning and product packaging. I would love to design the fabric patterns for flamboyant suits and cool outdoorsy gear, fancy chocolate bars, and beautifully wrapped soaps/personal care products. With packaging, my goal is to make it pretty enough that you’d feel a little guilty throwing it out. And when it comes to clothing, I just want it to stop people in their tracks.
